Ocean pollution is increasing as more people are putting garbage in the ocean all the time nowadays because there is not always enough room in the dumps.
Some Surrey Centre teachers had some thoughts about this situation.
Mrs. Henning said, “I think we should stop using so much plastic and start using reusable containers instead.”
Mrs. Schnare said, ”I have seen a big impact on the garbage when I go on airplanes. People should be more mindful and responsible about garbage in the ocean.”
Mr. Pearce said, “I don’t mind garbage in the garbage can but I don’t like it when people throw garbage directly into the ocean.”
Some scientists say that the garbage in the ocean is killing and affecting fish and other ocean wildlife because they either eat the garbage or they get caught in the garbage, such as pop can dividers and plastic bags.
National Geographic says that people throw garbage in big loads from boats and helicopters right in the middle of the ocean because there are no rules there.
Hopefully, people will become more aware of ocean pollution and how they should protect wildlife living there.
